Another New Mexico Memory

Alright, I've been having some real saudade (Portuguese for a sort of longing, homesickness) for New Mexico lately. So while I'm taking a study break, I think I'll post another photo:
The Valley of Fire, off Hwy 54 in New Mexico.
This was taken a few days after Andrew got back from his deployment. My mom had offered to take care of Livie for about 24 hours, so Andrew and I could head up to Santa Fe for a night. This was somewhere off Highway 54, I think, somewhere just north of Alamogordo (where we lived). It's called the Valley of Fire. I guess it was made from lava long ago. I remember having driven for a while before coming across this area . . . maybe an hour or so after we'd left home.

I just love reading about how OLD this area of the country is, not that the other parts of the country aren't as old but it feels so Jurassic out here...I guess I can't really think of another phrase.

It makes one really think about time and how long that lava's been there.
